We would like to let all of our Yiddish- readers know that the latest issue of the magazine Afn Shvel, published by the League for Yiddish, is now available. This double issue (#350-351) was inspired by the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great Yiddish writer Sholem- Aleichem (1859-1916). It contains articles on Menakhem-Mendl, the quintessential luftmentsh, new translations of Tevye the Dairyman, Sholem-Aleichem's forays into film production, an analysis of the "Shprintse" monologue in Tevye, and a look at how today's students understand this great writer (click here for the full table of contents in Yiddish). Afn Shvei is an all-Yiddish literary, cultural magazine that is currently celebrating its 70th year of publication. It features articles of Yiddish cultural, literary, linguistic and communal interest, as well as a beautiful modern layout, high-resolution photos, and extensive glossaries to help newer readers.
