The Epson Espression Premium XP-830 you note below would work fine, but it is an inkjet, which means
the printer is discounted because you'll pay more for ever-empty ink cartridges over the life of the printer.
Amazon has it, with an ink multi-pak for $170

recommend considering the HP LaserJet Pro M277dw Wireless All-in-One Color Printer, which is
slightly smaller physical size (16.5" x 16.4" x 12.7" vs Epson's 19.1" x 16.8" x 10.4"), but laser so the
toners will last much longer making it cheaper to own over the life of the printer.
Amazon's price is $280

If Jeey is buying,
order one of each of the high-capacity toner cartridges too, to have spares on hand:

Both support AirPrint (printing from iPhone / iPad, etc), but
recommend installing the drivers from
Apple and not from the CD included in the box (those CDs are always horribly out of date).
The Apple Epson drivers are available at
The Apple HP drivers are available at
Once you have the printer set up & plugged in place of your recently deceased printer, install the relevant
driver above and then add the printer via System Preferences > Printers. It should see the printer
automatically, you'll just need to change the driver to use from the AirPrint driver to the installed Apple
driver.
I know that last bit sounds daunting, but it should be obvious at that moment. If you get overwhelmed or
stuck I'll have you install an app that allows me to control your screen so I can take care of the software
side remotely.

Hi James...perhaps you could recommend the `best' home printer/scanner? I really don't need super
fancy. just something reliable and that prints and scans easily for IT dummies like me!! :)
