This has happened on a prior occasion - a very well to do patient put us in the same unfortunate situation. He paid on day of service because he did not want to wait, and not only came back and asked for his money back, but then came back to the practice for his follow ups. A pre-certification or a written denial is required. Without the above, if the patient submits an invoice to a carrier we participate with, the insurance would deny payment and require us to give the patient a full refund for not following our contract.
