"Closest to the Cross"
Kutani-yaki originated in 1655
In its over 350 year history,
there have been many mysterious happenings.
Unprecedented ostentatious designs, detailed painting that require the greatest
skn應
It ceased to exist, then reinstated itself - a history riddled with puzzles
How does it take traditional design and copy it to convey the same?
With these eleven modern day artists,
the kutani-yaki exhibition
How close will we get to solving this riddle?
We'll have to stay tuned to find outl
The region Kutani, meaning "nine valleys", or a place that has nine valleys.
However,
the next number after nine,
ten,
the character for ten is the shape of a cross,
as in
Christianity - what is closest to ten is nine.
Then mustn't the name Kutani also have
this meaning that is "closest to god"? The pious of the pious that gave birth to
Kutani-style.
That tradition has been passed onto our modern day artists
-十字架に-番近し\場所-
1655 年をその起源とする九谷焼。
350 年以上の歴史の中、不思議な出来事it \くつも起こる。
他に類を見なし\ど派手な意匠、技を極めた細描画。
途絶えてはまた復活する歴史に秘められた謎。
伝統を写し伝えるその訳とは?
現代作家1 1人による、九谷焼展。
どこまでその謎に迫れるのか?-
乞うご期待-
九谷とし\う地名は、文字からすると九つの谷のある場所とし\う意味に取れるが、
数字で九の次は十、十とし\う漢字をキリスト教の十字架としてみると、十に-番近
し\のは九。
九谷とし\う名前には、神樣に-番近し\場所とし\う意味が込められてし\るのではなし\
だろうか?
敬虔な信仰心が生んだ九谷と言うスタイル。
その伝統は、現代の作家達にも受け継がれてし\る。
