Subject: A birthday letter
Date: Wed, 25 Dec 2002 13:05:35 +0000
Dear Ghislaine,
This is not a Christmas Card, this is a Happy Birthday letter with some comments and
observations for your birthday.
Of course, I must start by observing that a girl (you are still too young to be a lady in
my vernacular) who claims to have no vices can only be born on the birthday of baby Jesus.
Perhaps it would be a vice to have been born on any other day? We cannot take this to the
point of immaculate conception for your patrimony is irrefutable for those of us who know
your wit and charm.
Like baby Jesus, you went through remarkable tests by fire and emerged the stronger for
it. Your willingness to live out on the edge and at the same time be a serious and sincere
person is what I (and others) find so remarkable.
I also need to say here that I think of
you as a true friend. You and I both know what that means in its deepest sense.
I want you
to know that I am a committed friend and I believe that this friendship goes both ways.
Now to the right brain issues. You are remarkable here as well.
Here, you do think like a man (that is a compliment of the highest form). Your logic and
insights are right there and sometimes brilliant. Your ability to effectively dissect a
problem is dazzling.
Your willingness to do this for others is unstinting.
You have now taken these skills and created one of the great parlours of our age. A
place to meet and a space to network.
Interesting conversation amongst interesting people, which, in the end, is one of the holy
grails of life. That has worked to the benefit of all of us and, of course, puts you at
ground zero, a place where you are most effective and comfortable. With all of this, you
are constantly thinking of how to improve and how to be even slightly more effective.
It is amazing to see and a wonderful example for all.
So on this birthday you need to know several things:
1. You stand for something good and you stand for something that others can learn from.
2. You are smart, attractive and someone to be toasted on this day.
3. You are my friend and I am the better for it.
4. All of the above is true. It is also true that you love hearing it and enjoy and are
flattered to hear all of it. It is also true that this is a vice and therefore you owe me
one bbbbillion dollars! (said while holding pinky finger to lips.)
Love, kisses and Happy Birthday to a wonderful girl,
tjp
