He is a bit of a mystery man in that he guards his privacy with a passion. He has a collection of companies
(think of a mini-Marmon) that have done fine on the services / manufacturing side. He had a couple of
investments in European dark fibre that did not work and I don't think his telecom investments yielded any
return. I will have to check my notes to see about scale. He has a lawyer from McDermott Will & Emery (MAP
may be able to check him out) that sort of serves as his COO and face to the world.
I looked at a deal to recapitalize a Eurpoean telecom deal that he had. I talked to an Anschutz guy who advised
that we stay away. Besides this input, I thought that the deal terms (security we would get, etc.) was
insufficiently secured to warrant our pursuit.
In general, his collection of businesses struck me as being somewhat ripe for restructuring (a la Marmon,
actually).
Rahm Emmanuel knows him a bit as well.

what do you know about him? The context is that a friend of mine is
discussing doing business with him and has asked if we know him.
