Igor Horoshevsky, was horn in Harbin, China in 1927. Born from Russian parents who were fleeing Russia during the Communist Revolution. It is believed that Igor's great-grandmother was the daughter of Prince Shuisky, a nobleman in the era of Boris Godunov. Igor's father was a professional violinist in Russia and when they moved to Los Angeles he continued to play professionally. Igor got his masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music in the 1940's. He was a cellist with the Indianapolis Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Igor was a featured soloist with the Longines Symphonette. led by Michel Piastro. Moved back to Los Angeles in the 1950's and played in many studio orchestras as well as free lance work. Toured with the Beach Boys and with Percy Faith. The cello passed to his wife, Mary Horoshevsky on 12-26- 2007, also a very notable cellist. Igor Purchase the Ettore Soffritti cello in the 1940's from another member of the Indianapolis Symphony. Igor had been extremely taken by the incredible sound and quality of the cello and was fortunate enough to be able to purchase it from a gentleman who was retiring from the Symphony. The cello was purchased for $450. plus another cello in trade. This would have been an enormous sum for a cello at this time, even for an older Cremonese cello. Our studio, Henning Violins, has been servicing this cello since the early 1950's. For questions regarding this instrument, please feel free to contact us.
