Warfare: The New Rules - The Cyber Threat to States Businesses and All of Us
Mon 23rd Oct, 7pm, Emmanuel Centre
Speakers
'This is a new kind of Cold War and it is just getting started. We
may in the 19th century have fought wars on land and sea and in
the 20th century moved to the air. but in the 21st wars will be
increasingly fought in cyberspace.' These are the words of Hillary
Clinton when she was in the UK last weekend. She warned that
the Kremlin is using the internet to foment trouble, fanning the
flames of nationalism and populism, with the aim of breaking up
the European Union and Nato.
The threat of cyber warfare is not only coming from Russia. Just
this week Iran was blamed for a 'brute force' cyber attack on
Parliament that compromised MP's email accounts. And then
there's terrorism: Isis are becoming ever more proficient at
weaponising the internet in their propaganda war against the
infidel.
To discuss the threat coming to us from the borderless space of
the intemet. Intelligence Squared are bringing together some of
the world's top intelligence professionals and cyber experts,
including Jeh Johnson. Homeland Security Secretary under
President Obama, who led the agency during Russia's cyber
attack on the 2016 election; Jamie Bartlett. renowned author and
digital technology expert who presented the recent BBC series
Secrets of Silicon Valley; and Angela Sasse, a cyber security
expert with a special interest in how humans interact with
technology. Chairing the discussion will be Radio 4's Today
presenter and former BBC political editor Nick Robinson.
Join us next Monday on October 23rd, hear the arguments, and
leam more about the new game-changing threat to international
security.
