From: Faith Kates To: jeevacation@gmail.com Subject: In Memory of Michael Kates Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2014 15:36:33 +0000 December 19th, 2014 Dear Jeffrey, I was devastated when Michael passed away this past June. Now, with your help, I would like to build something in Michael's memory that he would truly be proud of. As you know, Michael's life revolved around tennis. After his great junior career - he never lost a match in high school - and going to San Diego State to play there, he worked for ProServ, representing tennis players (no surprises there). He always had his hand in the game, even recently promoting tournaments at Madison Square Garden and working with my kids, teaching them how to be great players. New York Junior Tennis & Learning (NYJTL) is nearing completion of a state-of-the-art tennis and educational facility in Crotona Park, in the heart of the South Bronx, named for my dear late friend Cary Leeds, who played on the professional tour in the early 1980s. Since Michael passed away, many people have asked me what they can do in his memory. I have been thinking about this all summer and then a light went on...Michael and Cary were great friends. They had so much in common: they were both great junior tennis players, they were both always the most handsome men in the room, they could both charm anyone, and most of all, they both loved me and I loved them with all my heart and soul. I would love your help in raising money to name a court in Michael's honor. The Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning includes 22 tennis courts and the 12,000- square foot clubhouse, which will house classrooms for NYJTL's programs, a youth and adult lounge, a computer lab, and study rooms, all serving the poorest Congressional district in the United States. NYJTL will utilize the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning as its flagship center and as a model for its innovative curricula. Through tennis, academic enrichment, healthy living and character development programs, NYJTL has been teaching valuable skills to 75,000 underserved children throughout New York City for over 40 years. I can think of no better way to honor Michael and his love for tennis by naming a court at the Cary Leeds Center for him. It would be wonderful if you could join this endeavor and contribute to my goal of raising $250,000 in his memory. In the letter that was recently mailed to you, information on where to send a donation to was not included on the stationary. If you would like to join me in this endeavor, please send a check payable to "New York Junior Tennis League" marked for the attention of Julia Mallis, to NYJTL, 5812 Queens Blvd, Woodside, NY 11377. Alternatively, you can make a donation online by clicking here Many thanks, EFTA00681381 a Faith Kates Forward this email r r This email was sent to jeevacation@gmail.com by Update Profile/Email Address Rapid removal with SafeUnsubscribe'" Privacy Policy.
