I would not be surprised if either misquoted bits from the email or even headlines like "threatening email from us financier..." You are right to be angry. She is confused, scared, and I would assume probably with few options left. You've sent what we in medicine tend to call a "warning shot" and I suspect the message came through loud and clear.
