I'm just dropping this note to let you know I'll work on the proposal for the media room tomorrow. I was on a jobsite in VT today, and just got in. Yesterday we confirmed the Amp is shot (we believed this to be the case, but wanted to confirm before we proposed a replacement (Scott also insisted on being a part of the process as he was not convinced until we confirmed it in his presence). I also believe the front speakers (and their wiring) to be a contributing factor to the amplifiers demise. The existing speakers are designed and built to work with a very specific crossover and processor combination. The original synthesis product is no longer being used and the internal crossover in the current processor is not (close to) the equivalent of the original product. The wiring scheme is suspect as well (this is an important item and will be discussed below). The speaker feed is sent to the powered amplifier speaker level. and paralleled to the bass unit of the JBL's. From there it's passed to the mid/high cabinet, very odd and not the way I would do the room. The single most important thing is for us to get consistent IP addresses and we'd prefer MAC reservation as opposed to static IP. Scott called me last evening and gave me the password so that we can set our Mac reservations when we go back. He didn't make the changes we needed Wednesday as he was afraid he'd cause an issue (no matter how brief) to the network while Mr. Epstein might be working online. So..... WE will do this ourselves next visit, as the amp isn't working, we should be fine until we make the change. A brief overview of how we have the media room programmed: Currently, the splash screen (picture of the island) will prompt the user to select Apple Nor Blu-ray. Choosing either of these will start the system up (Marantz power on, source select, projector power on, screen down, screen masking up, projector lift down, lights off) we will add the outside shutters after they are fixed. That is effectively the same as their previous "showtime" button. I have that button, but by the time the user sees it (it is on the source pages), the scene has been recalled. That seems somewhat redundant to us, unless the original program didn't affect EFTA00706462 the lights and shutters until "showtime" was pressed. Given that the previous "showtime" button was one of the hard buttons, and on the touchscreen, I would assume the user went directly to it using the hard button. Pressing the hard button below the screen labeled "power" will prompt the user to either shut the system or return to the previous screen. Shutting down involves power off the Marantz, power off the projector, raise the screen and mask if applicable, raise the lights to 100%, and raise the projector lift 2 minutes later. That provides some time for the projector to cool before raising it up into an enclosed cavity. It will also raise the shutters once they are fixed. I plan to write a proposal to proper run line level wire to the existing powered subwoofers (or locate a suitable wire in the walls). I'd like to replace the existing front left, center and right speakers with speakers that will be wired and set as "large" in the setup, correcting one contributing factor (the rears are fine). I plan to propose a Panamax UPS surge protector with battery backup and "BluBolt" technology. BluBolt allows monitoring and resetting of individual outlets remotely, without opening any ports on the network (secure). Then there is also the highly recommended upgrade of the amp/processor product, to Krell product (I'll send reviews, the room deserves no less). We can chat about our last day onsite (Wednesday) next time we speak... it was interesting to say the least.
