I will arrive on June 2nd as you requested and thank you in advance for the accommodations and honorarium. Depending on your wishes, I could deliver a lecture that is heavily quantitative (e.g., neural signal processing/neurocomputational - related to single-neuron and population-coding of tonal consonance and dissonance) or one that is more general (e.g., neuroanatomical organization of music-related functions in the human brain). Please note my new email address: My colleagues and I invite you to visit The Institute for Music & Brain Science at www.BrainMusic.org. I look forward to corresponding again in the near future as plans for the Symposium take shape. My name is Dr. David Akombo, originally from Kenya. I am currently a professor of music at Weber State University, in Ogden Utah. The purpose of this email is to ask a favor from you. My colleagues and I are organizing a symposium here at Weber State in Utah on Friday June 3, 2011. We have created a society and calling it "Interdisciplinary Society for Quantitative Research in Music and Medicine (ISQRMM)." The symposium will provide scholars, academics, and similar professionals a forum to critically engage this emerging body of scholarship, and stimulate the exchange ideas for our times and posterity. The symposium builds on the research advanced by many scholars in the past decade on the health benefits of music. Scholars and researchers pursuing the discipline of music on health are invited to submit their proposals. The personalities on the Symposium Board include; John Bums, M.D., Clinical professor of Ophthalmology, University of Hawaii School of Medicine; Arthur Harvey, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Music, University of Hawaii; Jorge Camara, M.D., Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, University of Hawaii, School of Medicine, Dr. Joseph Ruszkowski, Professor of Music Education, and myself. Our need at this time is to find a keynote for the symposium. We were wondering if you would be available to be our keynote. I have researched your work and I want to commend you on your contribution to the field of music and medicine. I also watched the video clip during your panel discussion at USC with Robert and Jeanne and we would be much honored to have you here in Utah. The Society is in its infancy hence limited in capital. However, at the moment, the society would be able to provide a roundtrip airfare from Boston to Salt Lake City, provide accommodation for 2 nights here in Ogden, Utah and give you an honorarium of $2,000. We would want you to arrive the evening of June 2nd. Please let me know your response as soon as possible but would appreciate if a response is received by July 31, 2010. Thank you very much for your consideration and I look forward to your timely response. Ott Dr. David O.
