From: Jeffrey Epstein <jeevacation@gmail.com> To: ' MD" Subject: Re: oh Date: Thu, 26 Nov 2009 17:20:30 +0000 call me or send me a number to call you.. we had this discussion ten years ago, money vs doing good. I thought that money first , doing good was always available. On Thu, Nov 26, 2009 at 11:53 AM, Happy Thanksgiving! So rude of me... Love from Cape Town. MD > wrote: From: Jeffrey Epstein <jeevacation@gmail.com> Sent: Thursda November 26, 2009 1:33 PM To: MD < Subject: Re: Re: how much is foundation salary, benefits? etc, same for doctoring. after taxes your 225 is 150, you say father 75 sister 25 zinb and proje 30 . that leaves . 20k for year. How old are you now.? half of TWO properties. only mentioned one. On Thu, Nov 26, 2009 at 4:44 AM, , MD < wrote: I make about 225K per year these days. Foundation, doctoring and publications. I should be making 500 to 600K like my colleagues with similar skills but Im happy at the public hospital since I feel like the poorest should get the best even if they can't pay. Id work for free for them if I could. My needs were a little weird this year be of cancer stuff but I do support my dad (dying of squamous cell neck cancer...I did one of his surgeries) and I think he may live at most 5 years more given his staging. I provide all medical costs and care needs. That's about 75K per year. His wife works and pays for basics, housing etc. I also help my sister and her husband recently as they got hit pretty hard and are both looking for work. My sister got laid off as teacher, bummer. They work (currently) in commission paying jobs only (which are boom or bust) so I pay kids school and food/essentials when needed. Last year it was about 25K, this year closer to 35K. I also pay for my car, clothes, health etc. I support 2 orphans es in Zimbabwe at about 10K or 15K per year and spend another 15K to support the tiny project I started in 2007 It provides basic tools like learning heart sounds or how to do basic resuscitation for docs in developing coun nes. l spend 10K per year supporting medical student associations in Nepal, China, Uganda and Tanzania. Steve pays for house (we bought jointly and have no mortgage) related expenses, mostly technology stuff so he can work from home. Our house is like Norad. He does support me if I ask for something but of course he's supporting his elderly mom and sister and since I am employed (and have some basic skills) I feel like I shouldn't be someone's dependent. I try to save everything else. I have 250K in my 401k and 150K in savings. I own half of two properties with steve. Lease my car (short attention span). I like watches so every few years I buy one. Does that help? From: Jeffrey Epstein <jeevacation@gmail.com> Sent: Thursda , November 26, 2009 9:36 AM To: MD < Subject: Re: What are your financial needs. ? How much do you earn from the foundation currently. Does Steve support you. ? EFTA00742556 On Thu, Nov 26, 2009 at 1:16 AM. Can I call you on the 30th? Will meet with Bill on Dec 10. Big re-org at foundation, poverty stuff not as fun/challenging for me as science. Also enjoy doing more neurosurgery. I enjoy working at the public hospitals and providing the best care possible for folks who couldn't otherwise afford it Want to do half time neuro and half time science philanthropy. The most neuro I can do in one yr is 4 months (thats how academics works). Bill doesnt really do science philanthropy except through nathan and his org is not somewhere I would thrive. I will have to propose something to bill, or leave foundation and look for other science philanthropy job but I can't leave Seattle since Steve is really just hitting his peak. My guess is that he'll go for ceo next and be iconic in his own way, like a nerdier and more customer focused Steve Jobs. Of course I want to support him which means finding something Seattle based but super flexible. I feel like I have 3 to 5 years of creativity left. My brain isn't yet ready to pack it in. Plus I look DAMN GOOD (haha). I can always try to make it work at foundation on poverty issues in a big org and feel really out of place. Im struggling.
