Re: Rescheduling November Origins meeting in St. Thomas
I am very sorry to report that we have been forced to reschedule our Nov 12-15th Origins science advisory
meeting in St. Thomas. While we do so reluctantly, and recognize the inconvenience to many of you, two factors
compelled us to make this decision. First, detailed scheduling arrangements on-site in St. Thomas became
confused enough that our sponsor was worried about our ability to hold a successful meeting at the Ritz Carlton
hotel at this time. Second, and perhaps more important was the fact that enough of our scheduled attendees had
to change their plans at the last minute due to scheduling conflicts that we felt we would not have significant
enough representation from our valued board to justify holding the meeting at this time.
Those of you who have already booked and paid for airline or other arrangements will be reimbursed for any
cancellation fees associated with your tickets so that no one will be out of pocket for any expenses. Please direct
your inquiries in this regard to Penelope Moon, who will coordinate your reimbursement. Penelope is also
going to coordinate rescheduling the meeting for sometime in 2011 when we can be assured that many or all of
our board members can attend. We will explore times ranging from March- Nov 2011 and will send out a matrix
of choices when they become available. We want to make certain that the eventual meeting is stimulating and
exciting for all the participants.
Once again, please accept my apologies for this late change of plans. I hope that the benefits to all, including the
Origins Project itself, from delaying this meeting will far outweigh the inconvenience we are now imposing upon
many of you.
I will look forward at that time to reporting upon many of our upcoming activities, including our
Origins of Morality meeting Nov 5-7, our Origins of Life meeting Feb 10-12th, and our large Science and
Culture event April 8-11 when I next get to see you all.
