It's completely hidden from view once the drapes are installed and I think one reason it is preferred is that it reflects the light away from the window, etc. The Black material also works well but since it soaks up the light they tend to get very hot if they are in front of a large, sunny window. The blackout effect should be the same regardless of which color velour you choose for the actual panels. The Black velour is popular but there are also other darker colors to choose from. If you go to the page and scroll down a bit you will see the 12 different colors available for these drapes. So I would suggest choosing the color you like best since they will all be effective in blocking out the light. If you decide to place an order the lead time is going to be about two weeks.
