EFTA_R1_01466715 EFTA02407344 . \State Moves Toward Historic District Designation Save Coney Island is thrilled to announce that the New York State Historic Preservation Office has declared Coney Island's amusement district eligible for listing in the State and National Registers of Historic Places. While this does not protect the buildings within the district from demolition, inclusion on the Registers could offer financial incentives for redevelopment projects that rehabilitate and reuse historic properties in the amusement area. Thor Update: Demolition... Unfortunately, Thor Equities has continued unrepentant down the path of demolition. Still, we hope that Thor will listen to our entreaties, and seize this opportunity to consider the ease with which Coney Island's historic buildings could be rehabilitated to become the centerpiece of an exciting heritage destination. But just in case he doesn't.... Walking Tour on Sundays Don't miss the chance to join us in our walking tour of historic Coney Island! We will celebrate the states decision by offering our free walking tours every Sunday through the end of September. The guided tour will cover all the historic buildings along Surf Avenue, as well as some of Coney's existing landmarks. We will have historic pictures so you can see what the buildings once were; and a few renderings illustrating how these buildings could be creatively restored and reused.
