To: Jeffrey Eps i n icon)] Cc: Phil levine Seb From: Sent Subject Hassel Isand Sat 11/13/2010 9:41:59 PM Dear Mr Epstein, My old friend Phil Levine was kind enough to give me your email and the ok to write to you. (You may know my brother Sebastiano) I'm not sure if you remember this, but many years ago when Ed Tuttle was staying with you, he came to visit me on Hassel Island about a possible house design project, and then I took him up to see Patti Birch's antique furniture for you. Recently I joined the board of the St. Thomas Historical Trust. Our big focus this year is the Hassel Island Initiative. Our mission is to preserve the many cultural monuments that exist there, and to make them available to residents and visitors to enjoy. The rich maritime history needs to be shared with the public, and the National Park attractions can eventually be an important part of our tourism offering. My grand father Isidor Paiewonsky's father Isaac purchased Hassel Island back in the late 20's. Isidor and his brother Governor Ralph M. Paiewonsky gifted a large part of the Island to the National park and the territorial government in and around 1983. Unfortunately, little has been done by either entity in terms of preservation or creating public access. The Trust will soon be meeting with Governor deJongh in hope of his signing a budgetary appropriation that will enable the Trust to continue restoration work on key sites that are underway now. We are also seeking out benefactors with an interest in historic preservation who can help make Hassel Island become a vibrant National Park. I grew up on Hassel, and would love the opportunity to give you a guided tour, or myself and a fellow board member could make a short visual presentation at your convenience outlining our specific funding needs and what sites we are working on now. It would be an honor for us to get your support on this important community endeavor Anyway, my apologies in advance for such a lengthy email, but Phil said to give you an over view. I look forward to hearing from you. Kindest Regards, Filippo Cassinelli Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T EFTA_R1_01475777 EFTA02413304
