Dear Barbro Ehnbom,
Dr. Sacks greatly appreciates your invitation to the SALSS, but as I mentioned in my previous
email, he is recuperating from a recent spine surgery, and, much as he would love to visit Sweden
again, at this point it does not look like he will be ready to travel to Europe by September--I am
sorry. Thanks again for thinking of him.
Sincerely,
Kate Edgar

Dear Dr. Sacks,
As Chairman of the Swedish-American Life Science Summit (SALSS) I am proud to invite you to this year's
Summit, held in Stockholm, Sweden, September 29th — October 1". I am familiar with your intriguing
work on perception and memory, and, as our mutual friend Jeffrey Epstein warmly recommended I
contact you in regards to SALSS, I am very pleased to invite you to speak at this year's Summit.
The Swedish-American Life Science Summit is a by-invitation-only event featuring some of the world's
best renowned life science executives. The objective of the summit is to build strategic and financial
networks between the two countries. SALSS is purposely kept to a small group of dignitaries, fostering
personal relationships between select Swedish biotech executives and American investors. Previous
years' programs have featured among others David Brennan, Jacob Wallenberg, the President of
Karolinska Institutet Harriet Wallberg-Henriksson, Nobel Laureate Arvid Carlsson and Congresswoman
Diana Degette.
This year's primary focus areas will be on neuroscience and converging technologies. Our audience is
familiar with your highly influential, groundbreaking work on neuroscience and on philosophy of the
mind, and we are convinced that they would highly appreciate to hear you address this subject in
person. We would be most honored to have you join our roster of speakers, which also includes your
good friend and colleague Prof Gerald M Edelman.
The first evening, September 29th, will feature a welcoming reception at the U.S. Ambassador Matthew
Barzun's residence followed by a special dinner for select guests.
The next morning, Nobel Laureate Gerald Edelman will speak, hopefully preceded by H.M.King Carl XVI
Gustaf having welcomed us to Sweden. The rest of the day will, in addition to showcasing some of
Sweden's most promising and intriguing biotech companies, also feature panel discussions on big
pharma's renewed interest in innovative new medtech companies. This will be followed by a dinner

cruise around Stockholm. A luncheon at the famous Stockholm Concert Hall will conclude the final
Summit day, as many of us have a personal interest in the interconnections between music and
neuroscience and this would obviously be a natural lead in following your address.
Attached is the save-the-date: a tentative program will be released shortly. Please do not hesitate to
contact me if you have any questions. Please talk to Jeffrey about this as he is familiar with both me, the
summit and the country..!
We look forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Barbro
