I was part of the inital group with Nat Lewis at Caltech twenty years ago
who dismantled P & F. So, this wasn't my first rodeo. If you want some
amusement, you can see my correspondence dismantling this new concept,
but you probably have better things to read than junk science being
dismantled.

Yes, lots of videos. I will notify you when they are posted. There were
some excellent talks by the usual gang (and some new) of suspects and
scoundrals.
My truck made it fine, and I premiered my out-of-body experience, which
is a very robust effect (basically get you to completely dark adapt, and
then you look at your body, and I paint the image very vividly on your
retina, and then you look up at the ceiling). I got Saul Wurman and
many others to see their bodies floating on the ceiling and other
interesting perceptual effects. A big hit along with my levitiating water
device.
Our noble goal was to get permanently banned from Staten Island, but
while the fire department came and closed down the rocket merry-go-
rounds, etc., and stopped us from shooting watermellons at the Statue of
Liberty, it was just a great nerd fest. You would have enjoyed. Lots of fun
people, and my good friend Lisa Randall came for the morning too.
Later this month, I am moderating a distinguished panel at the big twitter
conference with Jon Klein (President of CNN), Arianna Huffington, Caprice
Young (CEO of Milken's Knowledge Universe - I am on their board for
creating a new approach to on-line education), Jeff Pulver, and Peter
Hirshberg. I have been concerned that with information pipelines
becoming so inexpensive, if not basically free, we are rapidly
transitioning from an Age of Information into an Age of Misinformation.

The democritization of information, where anybody can be anything or
say anything, and all is presented on an equal playing field (regardless of
merit) is not necessarily good. Misinformation and its subset of
disinformation is rapidly drowning out information. And, twitter, by its
very contraints, robs information of its most important quality - proper
context.
This Age of Misinformation in my opinion is fueled by an anti-intellectual
trend in this country that has the false notion that Democracy means
that one person's ignorance and misinformation are just as good as
someone's knowledge and expertise.
There used to be filters at the top of information pipelines (peer reviewed
journals for science and medicine) and professional standards for
journalists, etc. Now, as I said, you want to be a scientist, claim it. You
want to issue health care advice, start a website, you want to be a
journalist, start a blog. Forgive my religious analogy, but the Bible once
described a Great Flood that overcame and destroyed this planet. I
predict a Great Shallowness overcoming and destroying this planet.
BTW, for your amusement, I spent part of the last month investigating a
new cold fusion device for our billionaire engineer pals on the west coast,
who were about to sink millions of dollars into this thing. I initially sent
the "free" letter of "be carefull, be very careful, etc., but got in response
a long letter filled with claims on how this was going to solve the various
energy problems, etc. The material was good enough to fool an educated
layman, but not an expert. They hired me, and I sort it out. No surprise,
it was less efficient, not more efficient. Junk science throughout....
Really hope that someday you will make it to Malibu.
Don't know why you reside in Florida. I thought the average age there was
dead and it is filled with southern rednecks.
Cheers,
me

Jeff,
It would have been nice to see you at Gadgetoff. You would have had a
good time and around some fun and intelligent people. It was a lot of
fun. I am on the Board of the Gathering for Martin Gardner in April.
Again, it is by invite only, and filled with Martin's people, if you want
the really smart, and off the map. Emphasis is on ideas, not business,
but if you are interested, I will send you an invite.
And finally, never forget Einstein's statement to the Press over the
controversy over Russell's appointment to CCNY, "Great minds have
always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."
Cheers,
me
