Subject Report #104:
Hi All!
PRESCRIPTION???
I had my suspicions, but I asked a pharmacy in Abu Dhabi if they carried Yasmine, my birth
control pill. They did, but needed a prescription! Who do they think they are??? It's only in
civilized countries like Sweden and the US that you need a prescription!!!
I just have to stock up on Yasmine when I'm in Dubai. Thank god you can still buy anything from
Tylenol to heavy self-medication in Dubai without a prescription...
POST OFFICE
I complain about this country, but their postal services rocks! When the S-w-e-d-i-s-h post office
messed up I had to find the central post office in Abu Dhabi to find my letter. Not only were they
working during Eid (big, federal holiday), but they even hand-delivered it that day.
CAR
Really, my car is big in Abu Dhabi! Fm like: "Get out of my way, little Yaris! Oh, oh, speed
control..."
RUNAWAY MAID
While my friend and his family were gone for a few days, they "lent" his maid to a co-worker's
family. The co-worker locked the maid in to a 2 bedroom apartment and made her work like a
slave.
Two days after returning to my friend's family, she ran away without money or passport.
That's the stuff that will come back and bite you in the ass and give bad karma. It's even worse
when you actually believe you're doing the right thing and have no regrets.
TAN
Even though a cool 36 C (96F) and hot desert sun, if you use spf 30, you will not get a tan.
YOU WANT TO MESS WITH ME?
3 men came knocking on my door claiming toxic fumes were coming out underneath my door and
the floor had to evacuate. I'm no rocket scientist, but fumes I can smell! Since I'm too much of a
hard-core New York Bitch to open for 3 men, I told them to get the security guard.
They did and came back. Turned out there were no toxic fumes coming out from my apartment
(really???) and no construction going on in my living room (really???).
They asked me to open the door to the living room, but I said they could do it. Very frightened
they did as they did not know what toxic waste I might store there. They were shocked to find the
living room completely empty (getting furniture is work in progress).
Freaken Abu Dhabi-people, DO NOT MESS WITH ME. 7 years in New York, man.

A few hours later the alarm to evacuate the floor did go off. I guess someone had fumes coming
out of their apt... Since I'm on the 18th floor I didn't really feel like evacuating seeing we couldn't
use the talking elevators...
SECURITY GUARDS
When I was staying by myself ata
apartment, at 6am I heard keys in the door and someone
trying to get in. However, sine
doesn't trust the security guards, we put a security chain
on. This chain now prevented the guard from entering. I ran to the door and screamed. He
disappeared to the lobby and I ran after and then screamed and cursed in his face for 5 minutes.
I've never been that hysterical.
I called the building management and continued screaming. They were accommodating because
this incident would've looked very bad in a police report.
After all, in this country you are guilty until proven innocent, especially if there's a woman
involved.
ABU DHABI
I love living here! It's close to everything, my apartment is beautiful and I can't wait to start
working! I'm just waiting for my roomie to come back from London so the rest of the apartment
can get finished and for my MBA Diploma to get certified in the US so I can start working.
Cheers!
