I compared booking a flight using these miles with buying it the normal way on a one way nonstop from jfk to paris in 3 days from now; business - 4300$ regular booking or 1000$ with miles ( plus I get extra miles with amex if I use that to pay for it) economy - 2240$ regular or 600$ with miles + extra amex points.
