To: Jeffre E tein 'eevacation mail.com From: Sent: Thur 10/8/2009 12:35:44 PM Subject: someone else's chat with Larry Page Hi, I'm working on a "mini version" of the proposal to send to some "big name" acquaintances to recruit their endorsements for Itamar's and my project... BTW though, I mentioned your comments about Larry Page to my friend Rod Furlan (who knows Larry) and here was his reply We can see from his comments to Rod what Larry's view on AGI is: he doesn't think a complex AGI architecture like mine or Itamar's is needed ... he sorta thinks it's going to emerge from what Google is already doing via processing masses of data. If he believe that then, yeah, he'll believe there's lots of AI work going on at Google... ben Forwarded message From: Rod Furlan Date: Thu, Oct 8, 2009 at 12:13 AM Subject: Re: Meetin w/ E stein To: Ben Goertzel Larry Page told me something completely different just a few weeks ago. He said that he finds it hard to get Googlers to seriously work on AGI and that in fact, that he would be willing to invest on external AI projects because in his view not enough people are working on it right now. He also said that he believes that AGI will "emerge from mountains of data, lots of computing power and a simple algorithm" and then he went on to be completely wrong on his reasoning of how simple intelligence must be because doesn't take much information to express it in DNA. Rod Furlan bitcortex.com "The first ultra-intelligent machine is the last invention that man need ever make." EFTA_R1_01511261 EFTA02438186
