I agree, it's slightly different to the touch. However, the dense version may hold up better over time and help prevent
the higher cut pile from "relaxing" over onto the loop. More yarns = more stability.
Here are the spec's from the mill;
The Denser sample with the high/low is 6.25 lbs. per sq. yd. or translate as 13 gauge ( 110 oz.) construction.
The Original carpet is 4.5 lbs. per sq. yd. or translate as 11 gauge (72 oz.) construction
