The assistant deans were o= guard to weed out the ones that did the unthinkable... talked during sile=t passing. This was
practicably punishable by death! What an honor to be i= the color guard carrying the flag. The music teacher played
those famous = chords on the old piano which instinctively told you to rise or sit in un=son. If we didn't do it well, we'd
have to do it again... and agai= until it was perfect. We all faced the flag, put our right hand over our =earts and recited
the Pledge of Allegiance. You may not know this but it d=dn't include the words "under god" until the paranoid
commun=st threatened 50's. You had to comply to a dress code, or you couldn&#=9;t attend. The boys needed dark
pants, dress shoes, white shirt, and a re= tie. Or was it a blue tie? In a much simpler age, we weren't lectured=about
murder, theft and other serious crimes. It wasn't about drugs, s=x, or even smoking. We were hammered about such
important issues of the da= as J-walking. We were warned to cross at the green, not in between. We I-=;d heard Smokey
the Bear telling us cement jungle kids, (the only tree we =aw was a telephone pole), all about preventing forest fires. We
had talks =rom the local police, and firefighters. Don't you dare pull that corne= alarm box as a joke, or you'd be putting
folks in serious jeopardy. M=stly we either sang, or watched really boring films about exotic places we=#39;d never even
knew existed. We learned how they harvested wheat, the ne= factory automated mass production, or nature. Very
