JEFFREY EPSTEIN INVESTIGATION 08/27/2019 UPDATE Child Sex Trafficking: 31E-NY-3027571 • On 08/27/2019, a court hearing took place in SDNY to formally drop charges against Epstein. The judge did not provide a response to the request to dismiss the indictment and will provide his decision at a later date (TBD). Twenty-three victims were present during the hearing, with a majority providing a verbal statement and seven victims providing written statements. FBI NY anticipates additional victims will be coming forward as a result of today's hearing. • On 08/27/2019, following the hearing, the USAO held a conference with the • victims. In attendance were FBI NY EM, FBI NY Case Agents, FBI NY Victim Specialist (VS), along with SDNY USA and AUSAs. FBI NY and USAO expressed their continued commitment to the investigation. In addition, FBI NY VS was introduced to the • victims. If/when the indictment is dismissed, FBI NY will have all responsibility for victim assistance. • Most of the IN victims are. residents. Two victim interviews were conducted prior to the court hearing, with two more scheduled for 08/28/2019. FBI NY plans to interview additional victims. Digital Media • Review is ongoing for the three cell phones associated with and CO • FBI NY will attempt to obtain search warrants to examine the content of the 20 computers seized on LSJ. The search warrants for LSJ only permitted the seizure of the computers. Additional search warrants are needed to review the content. It is anticipated the items seized from LS1 will be imaged by mid-September 2019. • Review is ongoing for the digital evidence seized from Epstein's Manhattan residence. • Two of the seized devices are encrypted. FBI NY is working to resolve the issue. Death investigation: 90A-NV-3151227 • On 08/27/2019, FBI NY processed CO Michael Thomas's cell phone. FBI NY is currently conducting a digital review. • When previously interviewed, BOP CO requested an attorney. The attorney called SDNY to advise that CO has potential criminal culpability regarding falsifying documents and requested immunity before speaking with SDNY. CO was on shift on 08/09/2019 from 1600 to 0000 with CO Novel Tovas. Color of Law: 282B-NT-3156749 • On 08/27/2019, FBI NY served a subpoena at Hutchinson Motel in the Bronx for records pertaining to and CO . FBI NY anticipates receiving the subpoenaed records on 08/29/2019. • On 08/27/2019, FBI NY canvassed the pizza establishment where and CO allegedly met for surveillance footage. The pizza establishment did not have working cameras. FBI NY will canvass surrounding businesses for surveillance video. EFTA00147772 Public Corruption: 724N-3157147 • On 08/27/2019, FBI NY made contact and scheduled a follow-up interview with CO lodged a complaint about potential obstruction of justice. CO has been described as a serial complainant, with most complaints being unfounded. who had EFTA00147773
