JEFFREY EPSTEIN, SDNY; C/A SA -& TFO SOS FoA FBI New York, in coordination with the Southern District of New York's United States Attorney's Office, has been investigating the sexual exploitation and abuse of minors committed by JEFFREY EPSTEIN. EPSTEIN was charged and arrested with sex trafficking and conspiracy in July 2019. In addition to EPSTEIN, co-conspirators have also been investigated, including GHISLAINE MAXWELL. MAXWELL assisted, facilitated, and contributed to EPSTEIN's abuse of minors by recruiting, grooming, and abusing minors they knew to be under the age of 18. MAXWELL was charged and arrested in July 2020 with enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and perjury. On 3/29/2021, a federal grand jury returned a superseding indicting in the case against Ghislaine Maxwell. Two new charges were added in the superseding indictment to include Sex Trafficking of a Minor and Sex Trafficking Conspiracy from the time period 2001 through 2004. In addition to the two added charges, the superseding indictment expanded on the charges for Count 1: Conspiracy to Entice Minors to Travel to Engage in Illicit Sex Acts and Count 3: Conspiracy to Transport Minors with Intent to Engage in Criminal Sexual Activity from in or around 1994 to up to 2004. In the original indictment the first four counts charged up to 1997 so count 1 and 3 now include conduct up through 2004. Trial for Maxwell is set for November 29, 2021 with jury selection to begin on November 15, 2021. EFTA00155261
