Supreme Court Meets to Discuss Ghislaine Maxwell Appeal and Other Pending Cases
NBC News (09/29, Hurley) reported that the Supreme Court justices met in private for their annual "long
conference" to consider hundreds of appeals accumulated over the summer recess, including Ghislaine Maxwell's
challenge to her convictions for helping Jeffrey Epstein recruit and groom teenage girls. According to the article,
Maxwell's lawyers argued that a nonprosecution agreement Epstein reached with federal prosecutors in Florida
should also have applied to her case in New York, while the Justice Department opposed the appeal. The article
noted that the Justice Department and the FBI have rejected conspiracy theories about Epstein, stating there was
no client list or blackmail operation and reaffirming that Epstein killed himself in 2019. Additional reporting on the
story was provided by The Independent (09/29, Baio), MSNBC (09/29, Rubin), and Newsweek (09/29, Stanton).
