See our earlier coverage from Saturday: KI fires continue to burn uncontrolled, damage being assessed 4 Crews on Sunday afternoon, December 22 re continuing to work on the Coopers Road, Duncan fire on Kangaroo Island where 13,000 hectares have been burnt. Overnight back burning has secured part of the western edge of the Duncan fire, however the area between Snug Cove on the coast and Snug Cove Road approximately 2km south of the coast remains unsecured at this time. The CFS is implementing its plans to secure the western edge of the fire using a retardant line, but due to smoke causing poor visibility this is proving to be difficult. Plans are also being made to secure the southern edge of the fire, north of the Playford Highway. Two teams of firefighters from the mainland are working with local crews, private fann firefighting units, the forestry industry and crews from the Department of Environment and Water. To ensure your safety, and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel, please do not enter the area unless necessary. Hazards may include reduced visibility due to smoke, fallen trees blocking roads and emergency vehicles operating in the area. Residents in the area arc advised to remain vigilant and to continue checking and following your Bushfire Survival Plan. "Amazing to spend time in the command centre today to witness the way everyone is working together. CFS volunteers and staff, people from National Parks, Primary Industries, Police, Ambulance, KI Council and the private sector plotting and planning then executing that plan on the fire ground. "There are at least two local island families of four out on CFS trucks together including a mum, dad and their two sons from the Haines brigade. The local Pamdana Hotel is providing meals and local Davo's Deli is doing sandwiches. "Thgre are also strike teams fiunn around South Aus an et this fire out ahead of more bad weather an are all chipping in to save lives and property Thank you one and all." I remind you that section 54(3) of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Act 2012 prohibits the disclosure of information that is connected to a matter that forms or is the subject of a complaint under that Act, except in very limited circumstances. 4. I suggest that y. ="=.: .btaining independent legal advice in relation to these matter&ha Commission of South Australia provicy ‘thisory e service is available by calling se Sc teck CR. -- I also note your comments about the decriminalisation of sex work in South Australia. The Statutes Amendment (Decriminalisation of Sex Work) Bill 2018 was introduced into Parliament by the Hon Tammy Franks MW. The Bill failed to receive the votes required in the House of Assembly on 13 November 2019. While t respect the views of my Parliamentary colleagues, it is disappointing that the Parliament denied the Bill passing to the Committee Stage. EFTA00262406 -2- In my view, the practice of the sale of sex has existed since time immemorial, and will continue to exist without the passage of the Bill through the Parliament. Unfortunately, the practice will occur without the protections that could have been afforded to sex workers under the Bill. Sex workers remain in a position where their health, welfare and safety is a risk and where they may be prosecuted for their work. I will consider any new legislation to decriminalise sex work that may be brought before the Parliament in the future. Thank you for raising your concerns with me.
