To: Rodney Brooks, George Church, Daniel Dennett, Freeman Dyson, Peter Galison, Neil Gershenfeld, Virginia Heffeman, W. Daniel Hillis, Joi Ito, David Kaiser, Azra Raza, Jaan Tallin, Max Tegmark, Craig Venter, Frank Wilczek Dear xxxx With the end of summer, I am getting to work on the proposed volume in which I am inviting a stellar group of thinkers to help Norbert Wiener update his 1950 book THE HUMAN USE OF HUMAN BEINGS for the year 2016. (Tentative book title: "What Was A Human - A Meta-Book"). Date: 3pm Friday Afternoon, September 10th through dinner Saturday evening, September 11th Place: Eastover Farm 325 Guilds Hollow Road, Route 132 Bethlehem, CT 06751 The intent here is create a coherent and useful book that presents a variety of ideas and perspective without overlap and duplication. To do this (1) I would like each of you to send a paragraph (a very informal "abstract") on what you want to write about; and (b) I want to kick things off with a discussion of what the book should cover. For this I need help. So am hosting a gathering at Eastover Farm in Bethlehem, CT (90 miles from NYC; 150 miles from Cambridge) on Friday-Saturday September 10th & 11th. If you can make it's important to first re-read Wiener's book and have an idea for your topic that we can put on the table for discussion. Other than the abstract, no papers or formal presentations. I will pick up hotel and transportation expenses.
